Mike Sharpe - Technical Consultant

Mike SharpeMike comes from a background in sales and marketing. Prior to co-founding Survey Innovation with Hedley Basford he worked in the printing industry. Here he identified an opportunity to develop e-commerce solutions in the rapidly expanding Internet market. He founded Smart-Decision Dot Net Ltd in 1999 as an e-commerce and Internet solutions provider. His company has designed and implemented a variety of e-commerce sites, incorporating credit card billing and call back facilities. Such clients include the 'Navy News' at Portsmouth, Minolta, Charing Cross Hospital and Forwoods Music, the largest Internet supplier of sheet music in Europe.

In his early life Mike was responsible for sales and marketing within the leisure industry: hotels, restaurants and tourism. Mike has extensive experience of monitoring and reporting on levels of customer satisfaction and service within the leisure industry, working with companies that included Top Rank Leisure, Berni Inns, Lindley Catering and Bass.

Mike is quick to recognise the potential of new technology to change and improve the way companies and organisations perform business processes. This is particularly the case with surveys. Until recently, the only way to conduct surveys was by mail or telephone, both methods being time-consuming, costly and prone to error. Many companies that could, and should, have been conducting surveys were discouraged from doing so. This is now changing due to the speed and accessibility of the Internet. Mike believes that by giving all companies and organisations the facility to conduct surveys quickly and efficiently, those that do so will maintain a competitive edge over their competitors. They will also become more efficient internally and, if they use surveys as a means of becoming more aware of the needs of their staff, the levels of staff performance, commitment and retention will improve.

Mike also sees that on-line surveys offer IT professionals the opportunity to add value to the services they provide to their internal customers. Hitherto, surveys have not come within the role of the IT department.

Mike believes that success of Survey Innovation will be come from keeping up-to-date with new technology and offering the best of it to clients. This will be in addition to giving the very best level of service - checked regularly, of course, by our own surveys!
